Dalma (Pearl Island)
The green oasis that is full of immortal civilization.
Dalma Island, which wove many opinions around its name which we have today, and its place on the old maps and atlas where it was called (Pearl island). And like wise, Dalma is has been known for the production of the pearls.
The other opinion about its name, which is drawn from suggestions from the inhabitants of the island and from senior who heard it from their fathers and their grandfathers; In the past, the ships would pass and stop in front of Dalma to request to be supplied with fresh water, which the island was known for and which its inhabitance took from its wells and from the ‘eyes’ in its ground, when you ask someone: Why you stop in front of the Island? his answer: I need the bucket of a water then this phrase repeated with every passing ship. And with every passing day this word was transferred from a bucket of a water (which is ‘Dal Maa’ in Arabic) to Dalma.
The historical description of the island:
Mentioned by Mr. Fathi Mohamed (Dalma Island) The description of Dalma Island was mentioned in many References and it was refer to its importance, which goes beyond standard representation in the history of the United Arab Emirates in particular and the Gulf in general. This included the most important views which describes the island, as what is mentioned in ‘the book of the guidance’ written by Rashed Bn Fadel Elbnghli; It is a big island and it has a a water border on the south and on the east and the descent of ‘Lesan Al-Arab’ where you dive for long periods, and the market of the pearls is a mile long on the water line of Sir Bny Yas.
There is another description for Dalma Island, as mentioned in the book second edition of the teacher Mohammad Ali. He describing Dalma Island and he says its north part consists of hills the same level crests and it increased raise approximately ten Meters, the south part is sandy and low and it ends with sandy edge on the south border.
Dalma has continuous housing at the south west coast.
There is a description in Rafdeen book of the Mr. Ahmed abd Elbaki describe Dalma, it is the island which famous for its agriculture and harvest of palm and the growing of vegetables, as well as its famous Center dedicated for pearls commerce and Fishery, which are sold all over the Emirates.
